BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Norfolk Dredging was awarded the Beach Renourishment project last September of 2015. Originally Sunshine and Sunset beaches were to be filled first with sand dredged from John’s Pass. However, Norfolk Dredging changed the schedule in the order in which it was going to nourish the beaches. After filling the Treasure Island segments, to move the dredge to Clearwater and fill the beach from north to south, ending in Redington Beach.

 

County officials say beach nourishment benefits the community by providing increased storm protection for property owners and recreational opportunities for beach visitors. It also creates important habitat for shorebirds and nesting sea turtles. The project aligns with Pinellas County’s strategic goal of practicing superior environmental stewardship by preserving and managing environmental lands, beach parks and historical assets.

Does your personnel know the process to work on federal projects?

We know the processes of working with multiple government departments and multiple districts within those departments. Our work primarily involves working with USACE, NAVFAC, Department of Veteran Affairs, Air Force, and GSA.

How much notice is needed in order for you to mobilize to the job?

In many cases, we can be there within a couple days. Our company structure is designed to accommodate the challenging and demanding dredging industry.
